TINA ANGOTTI
Mirror
Tina Angotti's debut CD is not about extravagance. For
her first outing she has taken a truly “unplugged”
approach. Focusing primarily on her voice and her
guitar, there are few distractions and studio confections
to get in the way. This is unadorned music with the
singer as songwriter taking center stage. All excess has
been removed, or better still not included.
No where does that work as well as it does on “And I Do,”
Simple and to the point, Angotti has the vocal ability to
create a mood and sustain it on a song that is
understated, but not without considerable emotional
expression. Angotti's strength is her clear vocals. Sure
footedness with a melody is a close second. Both are her
strengths, and she exploits them to good effect.
Penning all of the songs herself, this set of 12
compositions are well chosen in that they effortlessly
flow into each other. She is assisted by excellent
production that is sensitive to what she is out to
accomplish. At no point does production obscure the
material, or get in the way.
“Stay” may easily bring to mind Stevie Nicks’ chart
topping “Landslide.” Though both are very different
lyrically, one can hear a relationship in how Angotti has
taken some inspiration from Nicks’ song.
Mirror as a whole is a delicate blend of tones and no
nonsense folk inspired compositions. It is an extremely
tasteful suite that will come as a welcome treat to fans. It
is also a very effective showcase for Angotti the writer
and singer with her guitar taking front and center stage.
For those new to her work, this is a promising
introduction and shows great potential for her future as
a recording artist.
